Can You Get Rid of Fears and Phobias using Hypnosis?

This week gizmodo.in talk about how to handle Fears and Phobias using Hypnosis

They discuss how “Fears and phobias are one of the most common issues that most of us face in our day to day life.” People possess common phobias including a fear of spiders, heights and public speaking but as gizmodo explain, some phobias to the none phobic can seem strange.  “These fears and phobias often seem very trivial to a lot of people and may consists of things like fear of animals such as spiders, dogs, rats or cockroaches or it maybe fear of natural things like fear of darkness..”

Hypnotherapy is one way of getting rid of a fear or phobia “because hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind..” Gizmodo  go on to say that hypnotherapy finds and deals with the cause of the phobia, this can happen, but many hypnotherapist these days will just, simply get rid of the phobia.

There are several different commonly used methods of phobia removal. For therapist who like to uncover the cause will often use regression.  Getting the client to back in their mind  “to the first time he or she felt that way and explore what happened that impacted him or her. Once the real reasons are uncovered, the therapist can then help the person understand the incident from different perspective”

You can also use Desensitization. Here the therapist relaxes the clients, allowing them to access their subconscious to score the phobia, before deepening the trance, adding relation and lowering the score. “This desensitization process is found to be very effective as it completely uproots the fear or the phobia from the affected person’s sub conscious mind, setting them free from it forever.”

One of the common techniques I use,  is to get the client to relax deeply, by asking the client to visit a peaceful and relaxing place such as a beech or a place in the country. The client becomes really associated, feeling completely relaxed.

These feeling of deep relaxation is anchored, and then the client takes the anchored feeling of relaxation and crosses a bridge where they see their phobia (IE a spider) The client stays completely relaxed, and unconsciously associates the feeling of relation to the phobia.

A great NLP technique for phobias gets the client to see the image of their phobia on a cinema scree. The client is double dissociated from the phobia by seeing themselves float out of their body  up to the projection box, so they can see themselves in the cinema watching themselves on the cinema screen.

The film is played backwards in black and white several times, ending at the beginning. Once the client floats back into their body and awakens from trance, the brain has created new neuro-pathways and a new way of perceiving the phobia. They are no longer phobic.
