3 Senses That Can Boost Your Confidence
Our individual map of the world and our memories are created through information provided by your senses. Our five senses are sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing
3 of these senses are highly powerful when it comes to boosting your confidence.
3 Senses That Can Boost Your Confidence. Sense 1 – Visualisations
Our visual sense is highly powerful. If you imagine yourself in a situation where your confidence is rock bottom and your anxiety is high you will feel this associated emotion strongly.
Our brain doesn’t understand the different between a memory, real life or future visualisation. If you see or imagine confidence you will feel confident.
- Imagine yourself in a situation that you want to feel more confident in
- See yourself as a confident version of you, and notice what make this confident you, confident
- Play this image so you can see yourself acting, talking and being confident
- See yourself achieving whatever you wanted to achieve in this situation
- Rewind and replay this film and this time visualise it from the point of view of the you in the movie. See what you can see and feel the confidence growing inside of you
3 Senses That Can Boost Your Confidence. Sense 2 – Auditory
Often when afraid or highly anxious we will talk ourselves out of taking a risk. Our own self talk can limit the life we live.
By changing the way our negative self talk expresses itself we can change the associated negative emotion.
- Listen to the negative self talk
- Replay this voice, but this time sssssslllllooooowwwwww down the words, really drag them out and became aware of the change at the emotional level
- Next speed the voice up so it plays really fast and squeaky
- Finally, turn down the volume of the voice so you can hardly hear it
- Use whichever technique that takes away the negative associated emotion
3 Senses That Can Boost Your Confidence. Sense 3 – Kinaesthetic
We make our decisions based on our emotions. If you cant control how you feel you will be limited with your choices.
You can learn to change your emotional state and to build up positive emotions such as confidence
- Think of a time you were really confident
- Find where this emotion is located in your body
- Notice the colour, temperature and speed of this feeling
- Start to spin this feeling faster and faster, making the strength of the emotion stronger and stronger
- Imagine this string feeling of confidence spreading throughout the whole of your body
