As an NLP Life Coach and Manchester based Hypnotherapist I have helped a wide range of people from a variety of backgrounds overcome fears and phobias.
Today I will share with the tools I use to create fast therapy to remove your phobia quickly
Change the Focus of Your Fear
People have a range of phobias from public speaking to spiders.
A phobic focuses on the fear of their phobia activating the flight or fight response.
The phobia focus becomes a daily limitation. If you change the focus of the fear, you can use a new fear focus to overcome your phobia.
What is more fearful then the phobia?
- Passing the phobia on to your children
- The phobia spreading to all areas of your life
- Disappointing loved ones
- Losing your job due to your phobia
- Not living life to the full
When you focus on a fear greater then a phobia you will change your perspective, which diminishes the phobic responce
The Logic – Emotional Seesaw
We have a logical and emotional brain. The phobic reaction to a stimulus comes from the emotional part of our brain – emotional reactions out way the logical brain
When emotionally caught up in a situation, your logic response disappears. If you activate your logic brain your logic brain out ways the emotional brain
- Become aware of when a phobic response is starting
- Scale your anxiety on a scale of 1-10, 1 representing calmness and 10 representing high levels of anxiety and fear
- Ask yourself “what can I do to reduce the number on the scale?”
- Ask “how will I feel if i was X number?”
- Ask “Is there any logic to my initial response?”
Rapid State Change
The phobic reaction to the stimulus is an emotional learnt behavior.
When a phobic reaction begins you can emotionally break your state which creates a new pattern which becomes a learnt behavior.
Fear grows with uncertainly – you don’t know how to react logically apart from flight, fight or freeze. If you change the way you use your body, your stance and body language, you will change your emotional response as the two, your mind and body are connected and work together
- Recognize the onset of a phobic reaction
- Use exercise; running, gym, swimming to change state
- or stretch, dance or pull funny faces (as children do)
- or force a loud long laugh
- Listen to funny music (louder the better) and nod your head to the beat
