Edward looked at the stage, to platform where he was due to deliver a speech in front of his peers, and his stomach felt liked it had dropped to the floor. He felt dizzy, light headed, his mussels tensed and his palms sweated, he had always been anxious about public speaking.
He was ready to run away, but his boss, unaware of his fears had already walked him onto stage. The speech was scheduled to last for 10 minutes, but the anxiety has sped his voice up that the breathless Edward had finished orating within 4 minutes, not many people had understood a single rushed word.
Types of Anxiety
There are many types of anxiety from an individual negatively perceiving a future event going wrong – such as public speaking, to a panic attack. People are anxious about flights, job interviews, meeting new people, exams and social anxiety
Anxiety Symptoms
- dizziness and feeling light headed
- reduced attention span
- breathlessness
- restlessness
- irritability
- difficulty in concentrating
- loss of appetite
- muscle tension
- difficulty breathing
- a tight feeling in the chest

Anxiety is often due to the negative perception of a situation – you will often imagine yourself failing, others even tell themselves “everyone will laugh at you, you won’t be able to do that”
This is because your current state, past experiences, limiting beliefs, act as your frame of references. Hypnotherapy for anxiety can change this frame of reference by teaching you how to relax, how to be more confident and by associating a different state and frame of reference to this stimulus
Edward after one hypnotherapy session was able to create a strategy for public speaking confidence. He was able to think about prating to large groups and imagine being relaxed, calm and confident while he was the centre of attention
