3 Steps To Speed Up The Journey To Your Goal
People underestimate the time it takes to achieve their goals.
You set a goal, create milestones and give yourself time-limits. For many these deadlines are plucked from nowhere, as you move forward slowly, your motivation drops as you pass your predicted deadline with only one or two milestones achieved.
Realistic time-limits are created through the duration on hours required to complete each individual task. But often life gets in the way; sick days, new responsibilities, outsourcing problems, changes in the goal perimeter, new projects
You can speed up the journey to achieve your goals, by following these 3 steps.
Step 1 Immerse Yourself Totally
Get totally immersed in your goal.
Everything you do should be around and related to your goal. When undertaking an irrelevant task, ask how can this task help me with my goal. Often the light bulb moment will be achieved in such situations, helping you to create a short cut to your goal.
Read what others did to achieve similar goals and learn from both their successes and mistakes. Surround yourself with people with a similar attitude to yourself and others who have the same passion and goal, if you can, befriend people who are better then you at the goal and allow their experience and skills to rub off on you.
Step 2 Predict Barriers
Predict the barriers you know you will face.
There are always barriers for any goal you set yourself. The mistake many make is that they don’t anticipate the barriers and when they walk into a wall they fall flat on there back and find it hard to get up
Once you predict the barriers you can plan how you will overcome them, you can build up your resources and skills to make this barrier an easy problem to solve and as the barrier surferces you will feel empowered for the challenege to come, as you have already predicted this would happen – it has become part of the plan
Step 3 Reflect for Perfection
After each action, each task and each completed day reflect on your activities.
By reflecting on your barriers, successes and challenges, you create a new updated plan of action. A plan that will speed up the process of achieving your overall goal.
You may decide to outsource task, discuss particulars with the team or decide what milestones/task are no longer required. You can observe your own strengths and weaknesses and decide what action to take.
Reflecting gives you a new insight that is invaluable to any goal an often from this daily reflection you will innovate new ways to achieve your goal quicker then previously thought
