NLP Force-Field Technique
Step 1 – Think about a time/situation when someone makes you feel bad. A time where a person’s words makes you upset, belittled and annoyed. This could be a boss, bully or someone you have come across who verbally upset you. Pause this image and disassociate.
Step 2 – Imagine yourself in a confident situation, this can be a real event or made up. See it from your own eyes, creating deep association; what can you see, what can you hear, where does your feeling of confidence come from? Build up this emotion until it is at its peak.
Step 3 – As the emotion builds up imagine that you have a button, or a gadget on a belt or trigger to fire/open your force field. Allowing the force field to capture your feeling of confidence and strength.
Step 4 – What does your forcefield look like? does it have sound? what colour is your forcefield? How would you describe it?
Step 5 – Turn the forcefield off. Pick other positive emotions (strength, confidence, happiness, calmness, assertiveness) build them up and at the peak fire the force field.
Step 6 – Turn off the forcefield. Imagine yourself in the future seeing the person who makes you feel bad and fire the forcefield, as your fire the forcefield become aware of all those positive feelings surrounding you, boosting your confidence, self esteem and personal strength.
Step 7 – Slow down time. From inside the forcefield you feel great, really confident. Imagine everything outside the forcefield slowing down. See the words come out of the person mouth, slowly moving towards you and the forcefield. What do the letters look like? As they get nearer see them smash and crumble against the strong force field, falling into billions of small pieces, falling to the floor. Repeat this several times.
Step 8 – Future pace – First break state. Now imagine yourself in the future, you come across said person – how do you feel? (if negative repeat process)
