Step 1 To Beat New Years Procrastination
The problem with a new years resolution is your first thought is “this is going to be hard”
Its this belief that creates new years procrastination.
In actual fact any goal is easy to achieve. The problem is, any new years goal, is often big “to drop 4 stone” “to become a millionaire” “to start a new career” We may want to achieve this new years goal, but the goal seems to far away or out of reach.
If you plan your new years goal, by breaking it down into manageable task, predicting potential problems/required resources and prioritizing each step your goal will seem easier to achieve creating motivation.
Break each goal down into 3 key steps, and make step 1, the first of your new years goal. This smaller goal will seem easier to achieve, and an easy goal is motivational
Step 2 To Beat New Years Procrastination
Focus on the pain of not achieving your new years resolution
Why do you pick your new years resolution? Often its because you are sick of a certain situation. Maybe you feel overweight, you hate having no money or your current job is boring.
Pain is a big motivator.
Have you ever procrastinated and then at the last minute you took action? This is because your pain focus change from the pain of the task to the pain of not completing the task.
The strategy does create action, but last minute action doesn’t give you room for error. Your work isn’t the best it can be, there is no time to check for mistakes and you will, due to time, take short cuts.
Instead think of the pain – the reason for the goal, now, and use the pain to make you take immediate action
Step 3 To Beat New Years Procrastination
Focus on what difference you will make at the end of the year
People focus on the goal, but the goal isn’t that motivational. What motivates people is the outcome.
If you achieve your goal how will this change your life, your relationships, your finances, your health, your career, your…anything
When you imagine what your life will be like you want that life now. This is motivation at the best and will keep you from procrastinating
