Get Excited About Goal Setting
Goal setting doesn’t work!
What? I hear you all shout. Think about it, if all you had to do was set a goal to achieve your dreams, then we would all be highly successful
But we know that traditional goal setting doesn’t work and heres why (and of course what you need to do differently)

Step 1 To Actually Achieving Your Goals
What we believe we have to do, isn’t always true
Currently i’m coaching a couple of clients to become more healthier
They came to me after several years of setting weight loss goals and never achieving them. Basically they would set a lose X pounds by X date
To achieve this goal they went for the default option – attend the gym 2 a week
Within 6 weeks they gave up, why? Because they didn’t enjoy going to the gym
With traditional goals; weight loss, get rich, fall in love, increase self esteem, most people go for the default actions – the traditional actions that everyone believes will help them achieve their goals
Step 1 – if the default action doesn’t work for you, stop doing it
Step 2 To Actually Achieving Your Goals
Create and Environment of Excitement
You need to be excited – not about your goal, but about the actions you will take
I like to be healthy and I like to exercise. I do, as many people do, attend the gym…..
…but, i’m not the biggest fan. In fact if I attend the gym 2-3 times a week I start to get bored. For me the gym is something I do when I want to increase my fitness level. I will go to the gym only when i’m excited to go and complete a full on workout.
When I attend the gym on a regular basis though, I start clock watching rather then watching my pounds drop-off.
So instead, I do exercises that I actually get excited about. As I love being in nature and I love exercising I mix these two interest and spend time, hiking, rock climbing, gorge scrambling and a number of other outward bound activities, which keep me fit and healthy
These are activities I get excited about. Now, when i choose to go to the gym, its because I want to go (when I feel excited about going) which is an additional exercise top-up for me.
Step 2 – complete actions to achieve your goal, that excite you
Step 3 To Actually Achieving Your Goals
Don’t Be a Solo Goal Setter
It is so easy to let yourself down
To achieve your goals, complete actions that excite you with other people
We are social animals so socialise
People feel more committed to achieving goals when they work towards their goals with other like-minded people
Meet-Up is a great app for this. Find meet-up groups for shared interest. Meet others with the same outlook on life and with the same goals.
It is this joint approach that will have an impact on your goal setting
