Can These 3 Tips Instantly Increase Your Productivity?

Can These 3 Tips Instantly Increase Your Productivity?

We live in a fast paced world where we want to complete our task as quickly as possible. People are always looking at ways to increase their own productivity.

For some their productivity is so low that all they can achieve is procrastination; they put off task, over think problems  and decide to do everything….tomorrow.

Without achieving productivity we feel lazy, a failure and unmotivated. These 3 tips will instantly boost your productivity.

101 coaching techniques

Instantly Boost Your Productivity Tip 1. No Time But Right Now

Have you ever set a time free goal? Did you achieve your goal? Most will answer no, or if they did achieve this goal it took them a lot longer then expected.

We are motivated by time and deadlines. When setting goals give yourself a time limit for each milestone and action – make these realistic.

If you give yourself all day to do a task that only takes 10 minutes or a month for goal that can be achieved in a day, you will find that you will leave to the last minutes/day before even starting the task. The problem here is that you rush and work under pressure which can lead to mistakes and stress.

Instead….

  1. Decide task and give yourself a realistic time frame
  2. Split task into reasonable steps and put these in order of importance
  3. Take action – complete the first step RIGHT NOW as this is highly motivational
  4. After a few steps reflect on how far you have come (highly motivational)
  5. As you come to end of the steps, plan your next goal

Instantly Boost Your Productivity Tip 2. Take A Break Before You Break Yourself

To be productive, highly productive you need to be mentally and physically prepared.  Your body is skilled at letting you know when you need to rest, eat, sleep, re-energise and drink, but many people ignore these warning signs which ends in disaster.

When you are working in stressful situations or when you haven’t slept, drank or eaten enough to keep your body at its physical peak you start to make mistakes; you cant think, solve problems, remember key bits of information. People work slower and make more mistakes – all this makes you stressed which in turn increases the mistakes made, creating a visus circle of mistakes – stress.

To increase productivity;

  1. Learn your body’s warning signals
  2. Eat, sleep and drink enough to keep your body at its optimum
  3. Stop when your body is telling your to stop and once refreshed return to the task in hand

Instantly Boost Your Productivity Tip 3. Get Prepping

Many people wrongly believe that jumping into a task is great productivity.  Jumping into a task with preparing can work, but only in certain circumstances. Get productivity comes from great preparation.

Once you have a goal or task to achieve you first need to prepare. This can include;

  • Story boarding
  • Brain storming
  • Reflecting on previous successes and failures
  •  Checking resources
  • Creating detailed development and action plans
  • Delegating task
  • Predicting potholes

Preparing is key to success, as well as preparing for the task you also need to prepare yourself. Think about your temperament, how you work best, your stress indicators and motivational traits. Once you know how you will best tackle this project add this element of success to your plan. Think about;

  • The type of environment you work best in
  • How you get energised
  • The type of co-workers who you work best with
  • What activities and approaches motivate you
  • The time you need to complete individual task
  • How to best manage your time
  • How you overcome stresses

3 Life Lessons I Learnt From Hiking

3 Life Lessons I Learnt From Hiking

As a fan of the countryside, exercise  and nature, I am often found hiking up mountains. I was surprised how an athletic hobby taught me several life lessons.

As a Manchester life coach I had read the studies explaining how exercise clears the mind, de-stresses you and how exercise helps you to feel good about yourself, what I wasn’t expecting was to learn several life lessons.

Life Lesson 1 – The Point of No Return

It is easy to set a goal, attempt the goal and then give up when the going gets tough – this is the reason why many people fail at achieving their desired outcomes.

As a hiker I plan long circular walks up steep inclines. At the hike start I am revved up, motivated and ready to go, ready to achieve my walking goal. As with all goals, at some point during the walk I start to feel tiered, a little demotivated and ready to give up, especially when the hill gets steep and the goal becomes harder to achieve.

With life goals, it is easy to quit when you reach the “hard” part of the goal process, you can simply stop what you are doing and do something easier. Hiking taught me resilience, the long walks gave me a lesson on walking through the pain and gaining that desired result.

On a long walk there is a point of no return – the half way mark, the spot that if you turn around and give up you still have to walk the same distance back to the car as you do if you continue towards your hiking destination. It is often, after this point (the point of no return) that the pain kicks in, but because I was committed to the walk and had no choice but to continue the walk or turn around and walk the same number of miles back to the car, I carried on.

As the walk continued my energy and enthusiasm for my goal returned with each step taking me nearer to my desired result.  At the walk end, once I had achieved my goal, I got the buzz that you feel from completing a hard task.

The lesson to carry on walking even when the goal becomes hard can be used with every goal you set to achieve. I know now that the buzz feeling you receive from achieving a hard goal, outweighs the pain and hardships that often come as you walk the path towards your objective.

With goals you don’t have, as I do on my walks a point of no return, instead you have to dig deep, put one foot in front of the other and carry on walking. For me, the thought of the outcome – the buzz you get from achieving your goal, is enough of a motivator to keep on the right path.

Life Lesson 2 – Get Lost and Find the Right Path

Often when hiking, even with a detailed map in hand I get lost. This “lost” feeling also happens when i’m working towards a new goal. When working towards a new goal, things don’t always go to plan and the feeling of lost and anxiety can be enough to make you give up.

Hiking has taught how being lost can be a good thing. Many of times I have been lost on a hike and accidentally come across an amazing view, interesting places and I have even, on occasions found a new short cut.

Previously when lost I would worry. Now through my hiking experiences I am happy to feel “lost” when working towards a goal. I simple ask “what can I learn from this experience?”

I reflect on my situation and decide whether to turn around and go back to the place I know or ask, has this “lost” taught me something that can help me achieve my goal?

Hiking has taught me, that getting something wrong can turn out to be a great learning experience.

Life Lesson 3 – Get Out and Get On With It

I do love hiking, but sometimes I pull up at the car-park and the heavens open up and the rain poor’s down. My mind quickly flips from a perspective of “I cant wait to get hiking, to exercise, to climb the mountain and to look at the great view” to “I will get wet, and cold, I will miserable, I wont enjoy myslef, there will be no view in weather like this and when I get back to the car I will have to drive home in wet clothes”

The longer I sit in the care, the more I convince myself not to go. I learnt a long time ago to Get Out and Get On With It! I found that within hours the weather would change and I knew if I gave up and went home I would have regretted it.

Also, for me I like the hard part of achieving goals – the walking in the rain or climbing up a steep hill, as the feeling I get when I end the walk is more satisfactory from when I complete a shorter, easier walk.

When i’m planning life goals, I use the same formula. I look at potential difficulties and plan for these, but once I have decided to go for it – I GO FOR IT! As over thinking the potential problems only leads to procrastination.

3 Life Lessons Learnt From Children

3 Life Lessons Learnt From Children

When we are born we are completely dependent on our parents. They feed us, clothe us, help us to drink, give protection and they teach us the rules of life, the rules of survival.

It is easy to understand how our elders are respected and how as a young a child you look up to and learn from your parents and other peers. But even though our parents offer advice and help us to learn, you the parent, can learn life lessons from children.

Life Lesson 1 – Learning the Advantages of Failure

As adults we all fear failure. To be successful you need to be innovative and your need to push yourself to failure. So often we stay in our comfort zone, you learn one way to live your life, to run your business or to achieve goals, but rarely to you stray from this. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”Albert Einstein

Babies don’t understand the word failure, they only understand “learning.” Crawling around, babies will put anything into their mouth learning what taste nice and what taste disgusting. Babies will touch, play and test everything in their environment. Babies do not get embarrassed or check if someone is watching, and never do they second guest what others will think of them as they pull on the cats tail, break wind or giggle at anything that amuses them.

Many successful adults will also put their fear on the shelve.  A successful acrobat will not become competent at acrobats and leave it at that. Instead the acrobat will master the skill, spending hours practicing and preparing, making mistakes, getting it wrong and learning from failures. As you get it wrong, you will learn how to improve until you become an authority in your skill.

Successful individuals from all professions push themselves to failure, they practice and improve their skills until they get it wrong. Then they simply reflect and learn from their mistake and continue their journey to success.

Once you realize that you have a natural skill or gift you can be happy with this level of expertise or you can push yourself to failure learning and improving with each and every step.

Life Lesson 2 – Crave Creativity

Children rarely follows the rules. They use their imagination, creativity and innovation in everything they do. Children will use their imagination to make dolls fly, to serve cups of tea to invisible guest and to imagine walking through a new land full of giants and trees made from chocolate.

Many adults are to afraid of their imagination, they don’t want to be seen as a dreamer and prefer to show a professional and logical front to the outside world. People believe that others respect logical over creativity, but creativity is key to success.

You should crave creativity. The creative part of your mind is highly powerful and helps people to solve problems, to think out of the box, to find new solutions to old problems. Your creativity mind can help you predict the outcomes to actions, design imaginative things, draw people, landscapes and buildings. The creative mind gives you your “light-bulb” moments, it helps you to think on your feet and uses imagination to push people to their best.

Without imagination we wouldn’t have landed on the moon, will wouldn’t have the internet, we would have never created cartoons, built trains, created medicines that save thousands of lives each day and we would have never become artist, architects or engineers.

Life Lesson 3 – Have Fun and Laugh More

Kids are imaginative and aren’t afraid of failure, but my favorite life lesson from children is to have more fun. Children will do more of what they enjoy doing, children laugh freely and children like to enjoy themselves.

Adults of often feel stressed, tiered and ill. Many adults don’t make time to have fun, adults worry about other peoples opinions of them which stops them expressing themselves, stops them laughing at whatever makes them laugh and stops them exploring the things that interest them.

If you could do whatever you wanted to do in a world where no-one cared what you did, where no-one would criticize you and a world where you would be encouraged for your passion – what would you do? What ever your answer is, you should be doing more of that in this world.

Life is about being happy, having fun and laughing (which is the best medicine) Start by doing more of the things you like, surround yourself by people you enjoy spending time with and stopping doing the things that make you stressed.
