3 Ways To Beat Stress And Boost Your Success

Stress is a big killer

We live in a world which encourages stress. More people live in debt then ever before, a recent increase pressure at work is having its toll and technologies such as IPads, mobile phones and even the TV creates introverts, not the creative side of being introvert but a lack of interaction that doesn’t release the daily stress of life

As this stress increases, and builds on itself , your level of stress reaches a point of no return creating procrastination, worry, de-motivation and  excessive worry

But you can beat stress and boost your success rate

Step 1 Create Awareness

Stress creeps up on you

To beat stress you first have to notice the tell-tell signs. Having awareness creates concision control, conscious control  increases power and the feeling of power is motivational.

Stress, at first comes with baby steps. By noticing stress increasing you can then follow the next two steps breaking the stress cycle, increasing your success.

  • Feeling agitated, frustrated and moody
  • A lack of control
  • Not being able to relax
  • The internal feeling of worthlessness
  • Low energy
  • Headaches, chest pain, stomach upsets and rapid heartbeat
  • Lack of sleep
  • Clenched jaw and teeth grinding

Step 2 Pick It, Do It

When feeling stress, you will still get the desire to take action (meet a friend, start a business, exercise) but rather then taking action, you over think what you want to achieve before talking yourself out of your goal

This cycle has an additional negative side effect. Quickly as you make the decision not to take action, so feel depressed about the lack of action (which can lead to depression in extreme cases)

The key to success and breaking your high levels of stress is by taking immediate action. Pick one thing you know you would enjoy doing and do it – Don’t think, don’t way up the options, instead get up, move and do it.

Momentum creates motivation, so get moving

Step 3 Don’t Feed the Stress, Feed Your Body

Stress is fed by your negative perspective.

When you feel stressed you automatically focus on the stress of, well, everything. This is why you need step 1, you need to notice the feeling of stress and then, step 2, take action.

These negative thoughts are the food stuff fro your stress levels. The more you think negatively the bigger your stress becomes.

As well as completing step 1 and 2 you need to start feeding your body. Have you ever noticed that when you feel stressed you stop eating healthy, instead you go for take away or microwave meals? Also compare the amount of water you take when stressed an motivated.

To help change your mind set you need a healthy body. Plan your diet and making access to water easy. And again take action! When you get home and think should I cook the planned meal…or…

Instead of getting to the …or get a take away, stand up and go to the kitchen and start cooking. As we said in step 2 momentum creates motivation

3 Reasons Why You Need to Fail to Succeed

We all want to be successful; successful in achieving our weight loss goal, successful in a multi-million pound deal to successful in learning a new skill

Everyone is aware that to be successful that often you have to overcome a failure and here are 3 reasons why you need to fail before you succeed

Why You Need to Fail Before You Succeed #1

Without first failing you wont know how to handle a possible failure.

An initial reaction to a potential failure is to fight it head on. We see examples of this all the time. Governments will commission funding for a new building, this new build has an estimated cost of £3 million. Half way through the project it becomes clear that the building will fail without an additional £1 million being thrown in.

The government contrast  the additional £1 million to the already spent original £3 million and conclude that it is worth investing the extra funds. Several months later, the project manager request a final £1 million investment (maybe some extreme weather or unforeseen problem has created the need for the additional expense) The government again contract “we have already spent £4 million, lets give the final required £1.5 million.”

The project now has had an additional £2.5 million spent on it. Using hindsight you now realise that rather then investing you should have pulled out at the first request for additional funds.

The experience of failing helps you create a new perspective, a new learnt lesson. In future projects when a similar situation arises you now have knowledge that can help you may make an informed decision. Now imagine the next project is a £10 million project, the failure in the first project can save you a larger amount of money.

Why You Need to Fail Before You Succeed #2

When you fail you will often learn or have an innovative idea from the new failed perspective

There are thousands of stories where someone with a goal failed only to create a new innovative idea, piece of machinery or medical breakthrough. The post-it not was original a failure. The inventor was attempting to create a really strong glue, but instead fell upon a glue that could be easily peeled, which made him a millionaire.

Failing makes you feel like a loser. But by thinking about what you have learnt, the new ideas and new creations you have formed, failing now becomes part of the learning process.

You can even take this one step further. Even when you get a task right, you can push yourself, test different methods and approaches, knowing that some will work and that some will fail, as you now know the failing can produce massive breakthroughs.

coaching business in a box

Why You Need to Fail Before You Succeed #3

When you are successful for the first time, after failing several times, you first won’t believed what has happened.

You will check and double check. You will look at it from different perspectives and test it, checking that you truly have been successful. This is key for any success – looking for the potholes. If a problem is found you can amend it before it goes live

If you have been lucky and have had several successes, you are likely to believe you will be successful all the time – a winning streak. This tunnel vision can bite you in the bum, as you put something out there that is full of errors. This long terms can kill your credibility and even cost you financially

Failing helps you to become a double checker

3 Ways the Army Create Daily Motivation in their Troops

3 Ways the Army Create Daily Motivation in their Troops

The army motivate.

It takes motivation to encourage troops to stay motivated while on active duty. But also the lifestyle of a solider creates daily motivation.

These motivational tactics can be used in your life to create your own motivation in everything that you do

Run to You Fall

The army are known for forced marches, grueling exercises and competitive extreme sports.

Soldiers are pushed, encourage, to fight past their comfort zone, to achieve the impossible, to run to you fall and then run some more.

This lesson teaches the mind that you can beat the physical feeling of exhaustion with will power. The mind is the engine, you can fine-tune this engine to create peak performance.

By positively pushing yourself, working through the pain, using strategies that overcome perceived limitations you step up your game to a new level. This is the level we see in people we admire. It often easy to believe that others have all the look, the truth is luck comes from determination.

25 free coaching tools

Build Up The Body

Exercise is a key theme in every army.

The solider will create an increase in physical strength by following the exercise regime instilled by their commanding officers. There is also a positive side effect to this act.

When on exercise you create mindfulness by focusing on one thing. This maybe your breathing when lifting weights, the peak of a mountain you are climbing or the next obstacle on the assault course.

On long runs and forced marches, you learn to go inside yourself to that inner place where you find relaxation and calmness. Here you may even have those creative ideas and light-bulb moments as your inner critique is turned off.

Exercise releases stress and increases motivation, naturally.

coaching business in a box

Instant Reactions

You can train your brain to complete an act from learning to juggle to playing the piano, from taking apart and reassembling a rifle to marching in a troop

The army teaches it’s soldiers to respond without thinking. This instantaneous responce is life saving, learning to react to enemy fire,  intuitively knowing that an enemy is waiting in ambush or being able to defend yourself when attacked.

The more you learn a task, and soldiers spend hundreds of hours learning each task they have to complete, the faster you will be at that desired skill, until you can complete that action without having to think

This is how the army and how you can create unconscious competence. Being able to complete a skill without thinking is motivational , once learnt you can then master this task, taking your learning to a higher level.

What is also motivational, is that you learn that leaning a new skill is hard, is frustrating. But you learn that all task can be learnt with repetition and patients. When learning your next skill you will feel motivated rather then frustrated when you get it wrong, as you know that this in actual fact part of the learning process.

3 Steps To Get Going With Any Task

You have an idea, your create a plan of action then…..procrastination

The procrastination mountain in front of your goal feels to big to climb, small task seem like massive goals, and your goals are perceived as un-achievable.

There are 3 steps we all need to take when we want to create personal motivation, once followed you will find you will achieve your goals quickly

How To Get Going With Any Task Step 1

Motivation or procrastination is a fine line, balancing on your perception of the task. A focus on all the millions of actions you have to take, all the hard work you have to put in, all the potential problems and all the hassle you will go through creates procrastination.

Motivation to take action comes from a focus of the enjoyment of the task. When planning, focus on just 3 key milestones, the positive outcome  from achieving your goals, the resources you can tap into and the fun of living the journey.

Positive focus creates motivation

How To Get Going With Any Task Step 2

Create a positive peer group

Many people these days own their own business, or maybe you are self studying or becoming an inspiring author. Many goals or task, in the age of the entrepreneur, are solo task. When working alone, especially at home, it is easy to become distracted, demotivated or demoralised.

To get yourself going create a join a positive peer group (these are easy to establish via apps such as meetup) A peer group, especially when you meet at an external venue, creates motivation.

With a lack of distractions; TV, Pets, Household tasks, you are more focus on the task in hand. The group setting, the environment of  people collectively working together and encouragement from your peers increases your motivation to succeed.

How To Get Going With Any Task Step 3

Positive Reinforcement

Rarely do people praise themselves. In fact people downplay their successes, stating that it was luck, that others did the hard-work or thinking that others will find that they are faking it.

You need to believe in yourself. Consciously realise your strengths, skills and successes. Praise yourself for your achievements, your planning and your creativity.

After each success, goal and milestone reinforce this behavior by rewarding yourself. This could be a pat on the back or a nice treat. Reward will create motivation and motivation is the state that will get you going with your next goal.

3 Steps To Create Your Own Success

3 Steps To Create Your Own Success

What is success?

Success is perspective, what you consider success is yours alone. Once you feel you have achieved success you will feel fulfilled and a sense of joy.

Often our own perspective of success is distorted by others, this article will keep on your own success track

101 coaching techniques

Step 1 Achieve Success

Values

To find your personal success you need to ensure that your goals are inline with your own values. The achievement of a goal simply wont feel the same unless this goal is connected at some level to something your truly value

While working towards a goal or a change in your life, stop and reflect. Is your outcome going to have a positive or negative effect on your values?

25 free coaching tools

Step 2 Achieve Success

Many of us, around 80% of the population need external praise to stay motivated.

This praise shows them that they are staying on track, achieving their goals and being successful. This external feedback can come in the form of targets, an appraisal, customer reactions or online reviews.

It doesn’t matter which external feedback will motivate you, what is important is that you create an action in your development plan to receive this, all important, feedback.

coaching business in a box

Step 3 Create Success

The plan can vary

Often we set a plan of action and if we vary from the plan we feel frustrated. In life, technology, government rules, our own values, economics or a number of other reasons can lead to the plan having to be amended.

Throughout your journey, reflect on your plan and make amends to it whenever required. All your plans and goals should flexibility built into them. This flexibility can create ease when you have to make change, helping you to feel fulfilled and successful.

Creating Success in Life in 3 Easy Steps

Creating Success in Life in 3 Easy Steps

We are all looking for success.

Success is a generic word, and what you need to do, is reflect on the type of success you desire. By knowing what you want, you can learn the required steps to achieve this success goal.

How can you create your own success in life? This article will give you the 3 steps you need to be more successful.

101 coaching techniques

Create Success with Emersion

No one is born destined to be successful.

Someone born in poverty can become more successful then a child born in a wealthy family or vice versa.

The most successful people find something they are passionate about and emerge themselves into this passion. At first their focus isn’t on success, it’s on knowledge. Building their knowledge to become the best at their passion.

As their skill and knowledge base increases, they become experts, an authority in their passion. With hundreds of hours of practice (often it is said to become an expert you need to complete over 10,000 hours of practice) success will soon follow.

Others will soon realise your expertise, you will be seen to be on a higher playing field then others and people will want to learn from you. At this stage you can decide what form of success you want to gain from this; reputation, financial, identity

Create Success From A Focus on Pleasure

Coaches will often tell clients to set a goal, work out the required steps, take these steps and become successful.

Being successful isn’t as easy as that, or you would have achieved all your previous goals.

When working towards a new goal, you will face problems, unforeseen barriers, you will lose momentum or your negative state on a certain date will hinder you.

When we are faced with pain we desire comfort. In the goal situation the pain of the process can be over powering making you stop in your tracks.

By focusing on the outcome of your goal, the hard work, you will create the feeling of pleasure. If you think about the feeling of achievement you will receive if you work through this bad day, complete the hard task, if your force yourself to take action, your focus creates momentum

Create Success from Others

It is easy to let other people’s bad attitudes affect you

Mood hoovers suck the positively out of any room. To be successful you need to get rid of any negative influences in your life and surround yourself with positive likeminded people.

Find others who also desire success and befriend them. By creating a positive circle of influence you will all motivate, encourage and grow together

5 Ways To Kill Low Self Esteem

5 Ways To Kill Low Self Esteem

Your selfesteem increase or decreases depending on how you value yourself. If your confidence in your own self-worth, skills and abilities lowers, so does your self-esteem. To improve your self-esteem you need to know how you add value to your friendship group, your colleagues and the world.

People with low self-esteem constantly worry about other people’s opinions which often creates procrastination, procrastination lowers self-esteem creating a viscus cycle

You need to kill the things that lower your self-esteem, as self-esteem effects our relationships, our careers and our future life.

101 coaching techniques

Low Self Esteem Killer 1. Kill The Positive Vampires

There are lots of positive vampires in the world. You know these people, there the people who walk into a room and suck the fun, the positively out of every situation.

Positive vampires don’t just see the glass as half empty, they drain the glass so there is nothing left. Vampires are skilled at taking a big bite and sucking all the joy out of your life. Once bitten it is easy to join their clan, becoming as negative as they are, lowering your self-esteem.

How to Kill the Vampire

Vampires attack at night when you are not expecting it. Often you don’t realise that a negative vampire is effecting your mood until it is too late. Be aware of negative vampires in your social groups and stay away from them. When you hear the moans coming, leave the room, when caught in a negative conversation interrupt them by asking a silly question and smiling, as this breaks their negative pattern, giving you time to slip away.

Surround yourself with positive, happy and joyful people – this is the garlic that will keep the negative vampire away. Moods are catching, if you socialise with glass half full peers, there positively, love for life and happiness will spread to you. Once full of life, your self-esteem will increase

Low Self Esteem Killer 2. Kill Your Compliment Barrier

Do you ignore compliments and praise? A key difference between people with low self-esteem and strong confidence, is that people with low self-esteem don’t like to hear nice things said about them. And when they do, they think this praise is a lie.

Low self-esteem is linked to your self-worth. If you ignore approval and positive feedback you won’t link these positive attributes to your identity, effecting your levels of self-esteem. Often people take this one step further. Not only do they delete peoples praise but people with low self-esteem also list their own faults.

How to Kill the Barrier

Accept compliments. When people give you positive feedback, thank them and carry on with your task. At home reflect on all the nice compliments you have received and became aware of the common commendations that are given by all.

Rather than list your own defects, instead list your skills, strengths and qualities. Even stand in front of a mirror and praise yourself; your looks, your style, your personality traits.

The more you like about yourself, the more you believe other peoples praise and the more you are aware of your own skills and qualities the more positive you will be

Low Self Esteem Killer 3. Kill The I Compare Man

Comparison websites are highly popular as you can easily see, as an example, the comparisons for car insurance. The comparison website compares all aspects of the advertised companies allowing you to choose the best company for you. For money saving strategies comparison is a great tactic but for self-esteem, comparison is the worst option.

People will often compare themselves to other people, looking at other peoples strengths and comparing these to their own weaknesses. This uneven scale is heavily weighted to one side and can only make you feel negative about yourself. Rarely do people compare their own strengths to other peoples weaknesses to increase self-esteem.

How to Kill the Comparison

When you find yourself comparing your weakness to another person’s skill, change this by asking yourself “What steps do I need to take to develop this skill?” By having a plan to develop yourself, increases motivation and your self-esteem. You can follow up this question by checking what personal resources you have that will help to develop this skill quickly.

Low self-esteem comes from feeling there is nothing you do. By creating a plan of action to develop yourself you give yourself the control and with control comes higher levels of self-esteem.

Low Self Esteem Killer 4. Kill The Frown

You can always notice the people with low self-esteem as they rarely smile. There negative thoughts are internal, and as they go inside themselves to think about their problems, their lack of qualities and listen to their own negative self-talk their low self esteem increases. This emotional rollercoaster is shown on their face as a frown.

How to Kill the Frown

Many studies have highlighted that if you force yourself to smile you will feel better about yourself.

As you smile the muscles in your face send signals that are interpreted by your brain, releasing positive chemicals in your body to help you feel better. A study with a group manic depressives highlighted this result. They were asked to put coloured dots around their house; inside cupboards doors, on mirrors, etc. Ask they wondered around their house they were asked to laugh for 10 minutes every time they came across a coloured dot.

After a couple of weeks they group were reassessed and all were found to have improved.

This also works with body language. If you stand tall and proud, with your head held high you will feel better about yourself.

There more you laugh and smile the better you will feel.

coaching business in a box

Low Self Esteem Killer 5. Kill The Problem Focus

Your choice Problem or Solution? If your perspective is always the problem you will find it hard to increase your self-esteem and motivation, because negative emotions are associated with problems. It is good to predict potential potholes when working towards a goal, as this allows you prepare your resources, but in the main you need to be more solution focused.

Once highlighted a problem can expand in your mind’s eye. When you see problem after problem, difficulty after difficulty your focus is always negative, you start telling yourself that you will never be able to work through all of this. You predict so many potential problems that you feel overwhelmed and under resourced. With this heavy weight on your shoulders you feel that you are the failure, effecting your self-esteem.

How to Kill The Problem

To kills the problem perspective you need ask empowering questions that allow you to focus on the solutions. Having a solution focus helps you recognise your resources, past successes and a solution focus attitude empowers you to take action.

Each time you take action your self-esteem improves.

Solution focused questions to ask yourself

  • What do I need to do to achieve my goal?
  • What are my choices?
  • What steps shall I take first?
  • What have I done previously that can help me to achieve this goal?
  • Who else can help me?
