Manchester Hypnosis For The Weight Loss Process

Hypnosis For The Weight Loss Process

For most people, losing weight can be a harrowing and stressful task. Not only can It be extremely challenging, it can also lead to high levels of frustration and dis-satisfaction when you hit a plateau or when your efforts do not show results.

Many people get stuck in the vicious cycle of dieting, giving in to overeat, feeling guilty and then dieting again. Unaided weight loss techniques such as dieting can lead to relapses and weight gain, more often than weight loss. This cycle is also called yo-yo dieting. Not only does this repeated cycle make it difficult to lose weight, it can prove to be highly demotivating and cause lowering of self-esteem in depression

101 coaching techniques

Hypnosis is being included in the weight loss process these days to tap into the power of the subconscious mind to aid in the process. Hypnotherapists help in developing positive and encouraging thoughts to help deliver the results for individuals. Hypnotherapy will help in modifying thinking patterns and will lead to more enthusiastic thoughts about weight loss and health. This will help in continuing the exercise routine, diet control and enjoying this without feeling pity or guilt at any time.

While it is good to want to lose weight, a lot of obese and overweight people feel depressed and pitiful about themselves. In such a case, it is even more difficult to start or, continue a weight loss program, as most people hope for instant results. One must know that it takes time, and have the patience to go through with it. Following fad diets for months and then reverting to original habits does no good to the body. For permanent and sustained weight loss, a major lifestyle change or modification is required

How can hypnotherapy help

Hypnotherapy has always been shrouded with doubt about whether you will:

  • be in control or will be unaware of what is happening
  • be sleeping
  • be forced to do something you do not wish to do
  • lose your memory
  • reveal your darkest secrets

Hypnotherapy is safe. So safe that weight watchers can even practice self-hypnosis to aid in weight loss. During hypnosis, while in a state of being in deep relaxation, you or your hypnotherapy coach, feed in positive, encouraging thought about weight loss to help you. Somewhat like inception, this will keep you self-motivated through the process and will make it easier to keep yourself upbeat about the whole weight loss thing. Steps to hypnosis are:

    1. Be guided, by your coach or self, into a deep state of relaxation. Only when you are completely at ease will hypnotherapy work.
    1. It will feel like a day dream, and in this state of semi-consciousness, you will have access to your subconscious mind. You can then program your subconscious, more like a dialogue between your conscious and subconscious mind, about what you want from yourself. These may include suggestions or commands like “you will be more in control of what you eat”
  1. This may even include inducing soothing and encouraging imagery with words

The last and final step is to end the session, smoothly and subtly.

We make the choice to eat the food we eat with our mind not our stomach. A lot of what we eat and crave for is due to the automatic processes we have installed in our own brain.

For some this can include “eating everything on your plate” because as a child you were always told never to leave any food. Others have bad eating habits, and constantly snack on biscuits, crisp and sugary drinks. These habits can be hard to consciously break.

Others will diet and once a pound or two has dropped off, they celebrate with a big fatty chocolate cake and wonder why after 8 months of dieting they have put weight on.

Weight Loss Tips

To lose weight you have to be committed, as you wont lose a large amount of weight in a few days. Rather as you change your life style and eating habits the weight will naturally fall off , until you drop a dress size without realising it.

Part of the hypnotic weight loss process which can include a hypnotic gastric band includes making conscious choices. These tips, ideas and suggestions will help you get into the healthy state of mind.

  • Use smaller pans when cooking meals as this will allow you to make smaller portions. Portion size can be a real issue for many wanting to lose weight
  • Eat of smaller plates. You may need to buy smaller plates, but for those who like to eat everything on their plate a smaller plate holds a smaller amount of food and calories
  • Through away all of your chocolate, crisp and unhealthy snacks. This shows real commitment and people wont snack unhealthy if there is no unhealthy food to snack on. Some people will make the excuse that the food is for their grandkids, but this is often a simple excuse – get committed a throw away anything that is unhealthy
  • Buy and have easily at hand healthy snacks; fruit, nuts, seeds. People can even have bowls of these delicious healthy snack on your desk at work as they give you energy and fill you up
  • Exercise more. This can include regular exercise; swimming, running, gym or this can be a choice instead of driving to the shop I will walk

This is an exercise I do in hypnosis, but what I love about this technique is that you can consciously do it on a daily basis allowing you to retrain your brain to eat more healthier

Simply follow these 6 steps each day for at least 5 days. Ideally do this when you wont be disturbed.

Step one

Write down the benefits of eating the food you want to give up – there has to be some or you wouldn’t be eating it (i.e. what you enjoy about eating the food you eat).

Step two

Write down the loss of giving up said food – what would you miss about giving up this food?

Step three

Write a third list of everything that you would love about being healthier/thinner/living longer (whatever your goal is). Don’t be shy here; write down everything, even think about the outcomes to your goals. If you lose weight what would be different? How would you feel? How would others respond to you what else would change for the best? The more benefits you record the better.

coaching business in a box

Step four

Write a final list of all the pain you would feel if you carried on with your life as it is now. What would happen? If you got bigger and unhealthier what would happen? How would you feel going up a dress size when you want to go down a dress size? What do you think would happen to your arteries if you ate more fatty foods? If you ate fatty foods and put more weight on, would your children do the same? What do you think others would say if you ate more; record anything that makes eating said food painful.

Step five

Take one benefit from step one and turn it into an image (i.e. enjoying the taste of a greasy burger). In the corner of this image – shrunk to the size of a stamp – put an image of a benefit from step three and on the count of three push the step one image far away. At the same time bring the image from step three forward, making it bigger and brighter. In effect you are removing step one image and replacing it with step three image. Do this 10 times or until you can no longer recall step one image without automatically replacing it with step three image. Do this for all step one images.

Step six

Complete the same exercise as in step five but this time replace step two images with step four images. Next time you come across unhealthy food your mind will find the reset frames of reference to the positives of being healthy – the enjoyment of saying no thank you to fatty foods and the thoughts of you enjoying healthy food while at the same time remembering the feeling of disgust when you think about fatty, salty, greasy foods. These frames of reference will motivate you to eat a juicy peach, mouth watering fish or whatever you decide to choose to eat. This technique works well in hypnosis as you mind makes lasting changes and new frames of reference easily, when in a trance state.

Manchester Hypnotherapy Weight Loss By Being SMART

Manchester Hypnotherapy Weight Loss By Being SMART

People often set goals and wrongly believe they will easily achieve them. How many time have you said “I will lose X pounds” only to find yourself a week later eating a chocolate cake?

Goals can motivate you, but general unspecific goals won’t. The way to stay focused and motivated is to make your weight loss goals SMART.

SMART stands for: S – Specific M – Measurable A – Achievable R – Realistic T – Timed

The example goal I use is a common one, that many dieters say “I want to stop eating so much food, because I’m overweight” Even though the goal is seen as positive and when you say it for the first time, you feel committed and motivated, you will give up.

This is because the weight loss goal is to general. A week after setting your goal, you may find yourself saying “I will just have one slice of cake and I will start the diet next week” or “I can have one slice because I lost a few pound last week” By setting Measurable and Time bound goals will prevents this, because you will feel as if you are letting yourself down.

If you set a general goal, there are no specifics“I didn’t say I would lose 10 pound..” so you can, without breaking your own commitment have that extra slice of cake. A Specific goal means you have to make a real choice, you cant hide. Are you going to give up? As appose to moving the none committal, general boundaries of your diet.

To make the goal more achievable we can make it SMART.

101 coaching techniques

Specific: Don’t give yourself vague and ambiguous goals or you will achieve vague and ambiguous results. The key here is to make the goal detailed.

  • I want to stop eating so much food can become more detailed by saying:
  • I want to stop eating fatty food can become more detailed by saying:
  • I want to stop eating cake (So we have gone from ALL food to just Cake)

Measurable: Always set goals that are measurable. If you don’t measure your goals you will never know if you are moving forward or not.

  • I want to stop eating cake can become for measurable:
  • I eat 10 cakes a week and I want to cut down to 6 cakes a week

Achievable: many people set goals that are so high or far that they become unattainable. You can have long term goals, but long term goals are so far away that you can allow yourself to cheat. Always set short and medium goals (or milestones) that are achievable.

  • I eat 10 cakes a week and I want to cut down to 6 cakes a week can become more achievable:
  • I eat 10 cakes a week and I want to cut down to 6 cakes a week, I will first cut down to 8 cakes a week.

Realistic: if your goal isn’t realistic then you soon realise that it can’t be achieved, which will in some cases lead to you giving up on your goal rather then creating a new goal. In our example, would the client be happy to cut down/give up eating cake? This maybe a yes or s/he may need to replace the cake with something else

  • I eat 10 cakes a week and I want to cut down to 6 cakes a week, I will first cut down to 8 cakes a week can become more realistic:
  • I eat 10 cakes a week and I want to cut down to 6 cakes a week, I will first cut down to 8 cakes a week, and instead of eating cake when I am hungry I will eat fruit.

In this case the client eats cake when they are hungry, it might have been unrealistic to not eat, but now they are replacing the cake, not giving it up

Time: Goals should have a timeframe, with no timeframe many people will just “never get around to it” deadlines can really spear people on. You may chunk a large goal down into several timed milestones.

  • I eat 10 cakes a week and I want to cut down to 6 cakes a week, I will first cut down to 8 cakes a week, and instead of eating cake when I am hungry I will eat fruit. Can become
  • By 5 Dec I will cut down from eating 10 cakes a week to 8 cakes a week, instead of eating cake when I am hungry I will eat fruit.

From “I want to stop eating so much food” we have “By 5 Dec I will cut down from eating 10 cakes a week to 8 cakes a week, instead of eating cake when I am hungry I will eat fruit.”

Manchester Hypnotherapy Weight Loss Is a Big Pain

Manchester Hypnotherapy Weight Loss  Is a Big Pain

People are motivated by Pain and Pleasure,  the Carrot or the Stick, through the thought of potential Benefits and Loses.

People who want to lose weight but can’t need to focus on the pain of their weight, rather then the pleasure of food they enjoy eating.

After Christmas many people think about the extra pounds they have put on during the holiday feasting.  They commit to dieting,  but this commitment is short lived.  When weekend comes the idea of dieting seems painful “I will miss out on a tasty burger..” with the dieter committing to starting the diet next week.

101 coaching techniques

Your mind will motivate you through Benefits and loses. The benefit of the eating a burger is twofold;  it’s tasty and it will fill you up. The loses of dieting are you feel really hungry (painful) and you will miss out on a great meal.

Hypnotherapy can help you by directing your unconscious mind to change the direction of your motivation.  Under hypnosis, your mind will concentrate,  automatically on the pain of eating the burger; how the fat will block your arteries,  how you will gain so much weight that your clothes will no longer fit and how you will feel ashamed of your self as you buy ever increasing clothes sizes.

Your unconscious mind start to see the benefits and gains of dieting.  You focus on how healthy you will feel, how others will find you attractive and how you live a longer and healthier life.

Hypnotherapy works because when in trance, the therapist can embed commands to change the direction of your thoughts-the images in your mind. You no longer see the burger as appealing,  you see the burger as fatty and disgusting.

Public Speaking Confidence

Public Speaking Confidence

At some point we all have to speak in public. You may have to introduce yourself at a training event during the dreaded ice breaker, the best-man will have to give a 5 minutes best-man speech and some will have to present ideas at working during staff meetings.

Even having to introduce yourself at parties can bring on someones anxieties, and we have all felt our stomachs turning when we build up the courage to ask the person we fancy the most, out on a date.

Today I will share we you a couple of techniques to improve your confidence when speaking in public.

101 coaching techniques

Confidence Tips For Speaking in Public.

As a member of International Toastmasters and a Trainer, I have felt the fear of stepping onto stage in front of large crowds. Over the years my confidence has grown as I have implemented the techniques I will share with you today, to help you boost your confidence when speaking in public.

Public Speaking Confidence Tip One – Practice, Practice, Practice

This first tip is so obvious and so underused. “Repetition is the key to mastering any skill – Anthony Robbins” I worked with a gentlemen called Andrew who had to deliver 4-5 presentations a year at work. He was an expert in his job sector, highly knowledgeable about his subject and confident in delivering team meetings to small groups.

What you will often find when someone is confident in one area of their life but lacks confidence in another area, is that the person uses different strategies for the different situations.

Andrew would always prepare for his staff meetings. He would write an agenda, have written notes for each agenda item and even questions to ask certain members of staff. He would also visualize the meeting, and imagine questions his staff would ask him, with this in mind he would prepare resources such as statistical reports to use when answering these predicted questions.

The preparation gave him confidence. When it came down to preparing for his quarterly presentations, Andrew would shy away from it. His original experience, where his lack of confidence got the better of him, is a memory that had stayed with him. When Andrew thought about the forthcoming presentation, he’d let procrastination take over, putting the preparation off. On the day of the presentation his lack of preparation would increase his anxiety and dramatically reducing his confidence.

Public Speaking Confidence Tip Two – Capture The Audiences Attention

The speech can be broken down into 3 sections; The Opening, The Body and The Conclusion.

The Opening – with the opening section, use this to capture the audiences attention “Today I will teach you a secret technique for capturing the audiences attention”  you can even use this same technique, when asking someone out on a date “there is an amazing new place that everyone has been talking about, do you know about it?” now the potential date is intrigue, and will carry on the conversation, at the right point you offer the date.

Intrigue is powerful because the audience wants to listen to what you have to say. But from a confidence point of view, intrigue is shown on the audiences faces, when you can see that the audience wants to listen to you, your confidence will start to grow.

The Body – Delver 3 key points “there are 3 key things you need to know about capturing the audiences attention, the first is…” This also gives your speech a structure, you will know when to end. Nervous people often waffle, allowing their speech to go off into random and pointless directions. When you set yourself only 3 key points to discuss your speech is more focused, and you feel more confident.

When delivering large speeches, again, use the rule of three. But this time use 3 sub-points for every point you will be discussing (3 x 3 = 9 points to discuss)

The final part is to conclude the speech “to summaries, to become more confident at public speaking you need to…” By having an intriguing opening,  the rule of 3 body and a conclusion you have a structure to your speech that you can follow (again, as with the rule of 3 body, the overall speech structure is split into 3 sections)

If you realize in the speech conclusion that you have missed a vital piece of information that you need to share, you can also add after the conclusion “before I go I want to give you one last thing to think about..add missed information..” This is a great technique to create intrigue even if you planned this into the speech, as the audience think “were getting something extra for free…I must listen to this”

You can also use this trick if your speech is delivered under the assigned time.

Always remember the audience have no idea what you are going to say. If you have missed anything or say the points in the wrong order, no-one will ever know apart from you.

Public Speaking Confidence Tip Three – Don’t Say Anything

When you talk to fast, even if your subject is interesting to the listener, they will often forget what you said as their mind becomes overloaded. After each key sentences leave a gap, I will often count to 3 or 5 in mind before saying the next point.

The gap will allow the audience to think about and digest what you have said. You can even end your point with a question to the audience, this way the gap (which can be longer then normal) is given to allow the audience to answer the question to themselves.

Leaving a gap is important for public speaking confidence. One because you have a chance to breath, if you talk to fast you cant breath which affects your state of relaxation. Two you have a chance to think about the next point you want to make, often when you keep talking you will forget the order of your script which increase anxiety. Three, I like to look at my audience and the gap gives you time for this, as you will see the people are finding you interesting, and when you see the smiles and nods this can only increase your confidence.

Before I go I want to give you one last thing to think about. These techniques are highly powerful, but if you can just enjoy yourself when you are on stage, if you can just delete any negative self talk, if you can just be yourself (remember as a public speaker you are generally talking about a subject you know well) your confidence will keep increasing.
