3 Life Lessons Learnt From Making a Cup of Tea
In Manchester England, to solve a problem the old saying goes “all you need is a good cup of tea”
As a Manchester Life Coach, I know that a cup of tea cant solve all problems, but you can learn a few life lessons from the tea making process
Life Lessons Learnt From Making a Cup of Tea Lesson One; Sour Milk
Making a cup of tea is, well…easy! You need a cup, a kettle full of hot water, a tea bag and milk. Put all the ingredients in, a quick stir and “bobs your uncle” you have a cup of tea
This process is so easy that us Englishmen make cups of tea without even thinking about the process – it has become an automatic process
Processes and habits are design to help people act and react quickly. It also frees up time, rather then having to think about each task, every time we repeat it, we can instead, allow our unconscious mind to complete the habit, while we consciously think about other task
Sometimes habits can get us in to trouble. I once had a friend who recently moved house, after a day trip with his family, he drove home without consciously thinking about the drive. Consciously he knew he had moved house, but his subconscious programmed with his old address, drove him to his old house
Every so often it is good to reflect on your habits and assess if they still work for you? I was making myself a cup of tea yesterday, while planning a conference I was due to talk at, after putting the tea ingredients together and took a big sip, only to instantaneous felt sick, as my mouth filled with lumpy soured milk
Life Lessons Learnt From Making a Cup of Tea Lesson Two; Speed Ruins The Flavour
We live in this fast pace life where before work, we grab a quick piece of toast, make a cup of tea as fast as humanly possible before running for the bus to take us to work
Speed does not equal quality, in years gone by the traditional tea ceremony was a process that took time. We often find ourselves rushing towards goals, taking short cuts and trying to do everything quickly
In some situations speed is of the essence. But a task when rushed does not have the same quality. When a cup of tea is rushed the flavours of tea leaves do not have enough time to fully infuse the water, which means you don’t experience the same pleasure
It is the same with your goals, if you rush the journey and jump form one goal to the next you wont enjoy the experience. It is good from time to time to slow down, reflect on what is going well, drink in all the experiences that life offers you and create the right flavours in your cup of life
Life Lessons Learnt From Making a Cup of Tea Lesson Three; Leave It and Ruin It
I’m a big tea drinker! The worst tea often comes from tea brewers who leave the tea bag in the cup too long.
Many of us have goals but our own procrastination ruins our own chances. Rather then leaving everything to the last minute only to spoil the flavour of life, plan the steps you need to achieve your goals and take action. This doesn’t mean rush, but wait for the right amount of time, before you take the next step
If you leave it you will often ruin it, like an over brewed cup of tea. You only have one life, live it now, enjoy everyday and take action. How many times have you wanted to do X but by leaving it, the opportunity passed you by?
If you took action, what would have been the outcome? How would this have improved your life? What would you be doing now?
