Fear 1
Failing!
We hate to be seen by others as a failure, a loser, someone who cant succeed.
This first fear is so powerful that we don’t even need others to know if we are being successful or a failure, the thought alone is enough to stop you trying to be successful
Successful people don’t have this fear. Instead they focus on learning from their mistakes, the failures they will surely have. The truth is when you set a new goal, when you try something new, you will get it wrong, you will fail. If your perspective in this situation is a learning opportunity, rather the thought of “what will everyone think?” you overcome your fear and achieve your new years resolution
Fear 2
Making a change
Humans are habitual creatures. We hate change.
It is easy over the Christmas period to think out out the box and to see new goals that are out of your natural comfort zone. When January comes, the fear of trying something new overtakes the excitement of achieving your objective
Instead of taking a big leap, take smaller steps. Imagine your goal is to free-climb a massive cliff. Rather then get scared of the reality of this new years resolution, set a smaller goal – to get indoor climbing lessons.
This same principle can be used for personal goals. Say, you want to drop from a size 18 to a size 12. This initial goal seems unrealistic. Instead set a smaller goal, to eat vegetables instead of chips with your meal.
Small goals create momentum and momentum creates motivation
Fear 3
Focus
What you focus on your feel
Most people set negative new years resolutions “to stop smoking” by setting a “stop X” goal you are keeping your conscious mind focused on the problem. Take someone who wants to be more healthy, they focus on “I’m fat and overweight” this thought makes them feel bad. This bad feeling makes them upset, what do you do when you are upset…treat yourself to a takeaway!
Instead set all your new year resolutions in the positive “I will eat more healthy” “I will be a none smoker” “I will lose 3 pounds” Imagining yourself in the outcome from your goal increase commitment
Good luck achieving all your new year resolutions in 2017
